Digital Communication Conference at KAU, April 29, 2025

April 29, 30, 31

April 29-31 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the Digital Communication Conference hosted by the King Abdulaziz University Faculty of Communications featured two members of the Social Media Research Foundation: Dr. Marc Smith and Dr. Veronica Espinoza. The panel focused on the methods and tools needed to conduct social media research. Network analysis of social media is a powerful way to understand the webs of connections that form when people link and like content on social media platforms. Network analysis quickly provides a robust empirical method for identifying key people, groups, and the overall social structure of a discussion population.

The event also announced the collaboration between KAU and the Social Media Research Foundation to support network science education and research into social media.

The event features a three hour hands-on training session for people interested in collecting and analyzing social media network data from a variety of platforms, including X/Twitter. BlueSky, Threads, WhatsApp, Reddit, YouTube, and more.
